Car Seat Safety Checks

The Town of Menasha Fire Department, in partnership with Fox Valley SAFE KIDS, offers car seat safety inspections by appointment between 7:30a.m. and 3:00p.m.

Please contact the TMFD at 729-0931 to set up an appointment during these set timeframes. The car seat safety inspections will be held at Fire Station 40, which is located at 1326 Cold Spring Rd. in the Town of Menasha. Each car seat check takes approximately 20-30 minutes, so please plan accordingly. After reviewing the vehicle manual and car seat manual, parents are asked to install the child seat in their vehicle prior to the car seat inspection.

REMINDERS:

Infants should ride in rear-facing safety seats as long as possible; at least until they are 12 months old and weigh at least 20 lbs.

Kids over 1 year old, who weigh 20-40 lbs. and can no longer ride rear-facing, should ride in forward-facing child safety seats.

Kids over 40 lbs. must use booster seats or other appropriate child restraints until the lap and shoulder belts fit correctly (usually around age 8).

If your child weighs more than 40 lbs. and you only have lap belts in your back seat, you may contact your auto manufacturer about whether shoulder belts can be installed in your back seat or obtain a child safety seat that is specifically designed for kids over 40 lbs.

Once safety belts fit children correctly (usually around age 8), the lap and shoulder belts should be used.
