How to Run for Public Office

The Town Board of Supervisors consists of one Town Chair and four Supervisors who are “at-large”, which means they represent the entire town’s population.  Two Supervisors are elected to two-year terms which expire in even years, and two Supervisors are elected to two-year terms expiring in odd years, along with the Town Chairperson.

The Municipal Judge is elected for a two-year term, expiring in odd years with the term commencing on May 1. A law degree is not required for the Municipal Judge’s position.

Town elections are held the first Tuesday in April.  The seat is taken by the newly elected Supervisor on the evening of the Annual Town Meeting, held on the second Tuesday in April.

To run for office, Nomination Papers are available at the Town Clerk’s office in the Municipal Complex, 2000 Municipal Drive, Neenah.  The Town Clerk and Deputy Clerk will assist you throughout the process.

  •  Properly complete and file the Declaration of Candidacy (EB-162) 

  •  File a Campaign Registration Statement (EB-1) for a candidate’s name to be placed on the ballot

  • Candidates exceeding the campaign contribution limits set by WI Stat. 11.05(2r) will be required to file a Campaign Finance Report (EB-2)

  •  Circulate the Nomination Papers (EB-169) with the required number of signatures (20-100) for the office, sought no longer than the filing deadline. Pursuant to Wis. Stats., these papers must be filed with the Town Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday in January before the Spring Election. Candidates running for Municipal Judge must also file a statement of economic interests with the State Ethics Board by the third business day after the nomination paper filing deadline. If any of these required forms is not filed by the deadline, the candidate’s name will not be placed on the ballot.
