PARK COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES                               June 25, 2003

 

Commission Members Present: Richard Gawinski, Roy Kuehn, Herb Horn, John Zaborsky, and Glen Allen

 

Excused: Clarence Peterson, Judy Holtz, and Mary Heiting Bookkeeper

 

Also Present: Ronald Pavlak Park Foreman, George Dearborn, and Diana Kanter

 

The meeting was held at the Community Center and was called to order by Richard Gawinski, President, at 7:00 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and roll call taken.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES AND EXPENDITURES

MOTION: Commissioner Roy Kuehn, seconded by Commissioner Herb Horn reviewed the June 11, 2003 minutes and made a motion to approve.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

The Commissioners reviewed the June 25, 2003 expenditures in the amount of $3,346.37.

MOTION: Commissioner John Zaborsky, seconded by Commissioner Herb Horn to approve the June 25, 2003 bills as submitted.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

PUBLIC FORUM and / or CORRESPONDENCE

None

 

REPORTS - Ron Pavlak:

Ron distributed a letter from the Winnebago Count Department of Human Services outlining their offer of free summer help to maintain our parks.

 

We received a quote from Paul Zeller of Miller Associates, for a sign, for “Palisades Handicapped Exercise Area”.  The cost of the sign was $250.00.  A motion was made by Glen Allen and seconded by John Zaborsky to authorize the purchase of the sign.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Ron also reported that Winnebago County would move the 3 donated pine trees to Fritsch Park at no cost.  The trees will be located near Bonny Drive.

 

Don Verhagan of Superior Electric has been contacted for a quote on upgrading the electrical service in the storage shed at Palisades Park.

 

Ron met with Ron Klundt and reviewed the park ordinance regulating amplified music in the parks.

 

The park crew finished installing eight park benches.

 

Last weekend we had 13 park rentals.  This weekend we have 12 rentals.

George Dearborn:

  1. Moseng Property

The request for a grant has been submitted to the State of Wisconsin.  We should know if it is approved by the end of July.

  1. 5-Year Comprehensive Park Plan-Survey Results

George and Diana reviewed the raw data of the survey results.  We had a 30% return rate.  George will provide a detailed report to the park commissioners by our next meeting.

 

OLD BUSINESS

None

 

NEW BUSINESS

The discussion of the proposed Suburban Athletics batting cage upgrade with Roy Buchholz will be postponed until the end of the baseball season per his request.

 

CORRESPONDENCE

Amplified music and tent / canopy requests

We received a request for a canopy on 6/28/03 at Fritse Park from Lori and Scott Pennings.  Motion made by Glen Allen, 2nd by John Zaborsky to allow the canopy with approval for the location by Ron Pavlak.  Approved unanimously.

 

Request for amplified music from Sheryl Kuehn on 8/3/03 at O’Hauser South.  Motion made by Glen Allen, 2nd by Herb Horn to allow amplified music.  Approved unanimously.

 

We received a request for a tent on 6/20/03 and 7/20/03, at Schildt Park, by the Boys and Girls Brigade.  Motion made by Herb Horn, 2nd by Roy Kuehn to allow the tent.  Approved unanimously.

 

MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT BY COMMISSIONERS

Motion by John Zaborsky, 2nd by Glen Allen to adjourn the June 25, 2003 meeting at 8:13 pm.  Approved unanimously.
