PARK COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES                                                  February 13, 2002

 

Members Present:         Commissioners: John Zaborsky, Judy Holtz, Richard Gawinski, Roy Kuehn, Herb Horn

 

Also Present:                Ron Krueger Director of Parks & Recreation and Ronald Pavlak, Assistant Park Foreman, and Mary Heiting Bookkeeper

 

Excused:                       Commissioner Glen Allen, Theresa Bolwerk, and Becky Thone, Recreation Supervisor

 

                                     

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  The meeting was held at the Community Center and was called to order by Richard Gawinski, President, at 7:00 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and roll call taken.

 

MOTION: Commissioner Zaborsky, seconded Commissioner Kuehn to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2002 meeting.   Motion carried unanimously.

 

The expenses for January were in the amount of $6,064.12.  MOTION: Commissioner Zaborsky, seconded Commissioner Holtz to approve the bills as submitted.   Motion carried unanimously.

 

PUBLIC FORUM

 

RON'S REPORT  - Director Krueger reviewed the status of a reciprocal agreement with the City of Menasha involving pool passes etc.  Mr. Tungate, Director with the City of Menasha suggested a meeting to discuss this idea.  Commissioner Horn and Director Krueger discussed a meeting date and bookkeeper Heiting will assist on making the arrangements.

 

Dave Pheifer, from Pheifer Construction was introduced for assisting the Park Commission on the design ideas for the new pavilion at Fritse Park.  He gave ideas for the size, accommodations and the number of people it could serve.  His efforts suggested a rough sketch, followed by more meetings, and a concept could be drafted.  Following this a site design and construction plans could be reviewed.  His son, Jason Pheifer would be very helpful with concept ideas and a presentation.

 

Discussion ensued about the lift station / sewer pipe limitations / boat launching / traffic design and railroad property issues.  Multiple ideas and suggestions were discussed.

 

Bocce Ball and the preparation steps needed to install a playing area for Palisades Park were discussed.  It was suggested that an article be placed in the next “Bridge” issue to see if they would be any interest in developing leagues for this sport.

 

Park equipment pieces, such as diggers, swings and individual pieces will total approximately $7,000 to $10,000 depending on the number of pieces.  After the budget issues are discussed we will earmark this expense for the “Glenview” park.  The survey to name the park which  was previously Glenview Waterworks was delayed for further review.

 

The subdivision High Plains Meadows is in Phase II and Director Dearborn discussed the interest in creating a Park along the northern border perpendicular to Cold Spring Road and extending west toward County CB.  There could be a trail extended along this parcel connecting it westerly toward the proposed nature park near CB.

 

In June 2001 the storm which damaged several trees in the parks was discussed.  A suggestion to publish an article in the next “Bridge” issue requesting “Friends of the Parks” donations to reclaim some of the expenses.

 

BECKY'S REPORT  -  Becky Thone, Recreation Supervisor submitted a report, but needed to be excused from the meeting.  The information she presented covered the spring recreational programs.  Her report commented on the progress of the summer brochure and rentals of the community center.

Motion Commissioner Horn, seconded Commissioner Kuehn to adjourn the February 13, 2002 meeting at 8:55 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
